Reading & Maths Passports πŸ“šπŸ”’

Reading

As we are all settled into the new term, I would just like to say how impressed I have been with the Owls reading. So many children are reading at home and loving it! They have enjoyed sharing their reading with the teachers in Owls and they have been working incredibly hard with their blending and segmenting! I am so proud of them all!

If you are not reading regularly with your child at home, I just want to stress how much of an impact it can make on your child’s reading! In addition to this, they are all so proud of themselves and look forward to being able to share their reading with you at home.

We are still reading with the children every Tuesday and Friday so please can you ensure your child brings both their reading book and purple reading log in with them on these days!

Well done Owls again for fantastic reading!

Spelling Shed

Your child has also been set up with a Spelling Shed account for use in school. This is a mobile app which can be downloaded onto any smart phone or tablet. This app allows children to practice their phonics blending and segmenting. They can practice writing CVC words and working out which order the sounds go. For the Year One’s the app can focus in on particular word endings and groups of words to focus on spelling techniques. If you would like any more information about this app, please feel free to email me.

Maths Passports

At Gastrells, in order to assess your child’s progression in mathematics we use maths passports. These passports follow your child up the school and they slowly build on their skills as they go.

I will share your child’s current target on Tapestry. Most of their targets can be practiced through practical applications whether this is through play or another method, I would really appreciate any practicing you can do with your child at home.

Thank you again for all your support!
