There are some new scientists busy in the mini beast laboratory investigating and identifying mini beasts. They have lots of things to help them with their work including magnifiers and special tongs for picking up dangerous bugs. They have also got white coats to wear so that we can see who the scientists are!
Today we opened the bug hotel to see who had come to stay over the Winter. There were lots of snails, wood lice, centipedes, spiders and earwigs. We put them in the bug pots so we could have a close look at them. We used brushes so that we could gently put them into the pots.
This morning we went on a snail hunt around the grounds and although it had turned very cold we managed to find some. We took them back into the classroom with us so that we could have a close look at them.
We had a really good look at the snails though magnifying glasses and we let them move around so that we could watch them carefully.
We learnt about their body parts and found out some interesting facts too. Did you know that snails can’t hear? Then this afternoon we had a go at labeling their bodies to see if we could remember what each part was called.
Today we have been learning how to use the hockey sticks to move the ball around the playground. Then we had a go at passing the ball backwards and forwards. We have to keep the hockey stick down low and remember we are not playing golf. Some of us have got a really good action. We imagined that we were playing for some teams in the Olympics! Maybe one day we could be…
